MTH1W – Grade 9 Mathematics offers a comprehensive and inclusive introduction to core mathematical concepts through a de-streamed curriculum designed for all learners. Unit 1: Numbers
This unit explores the foundations of number theory and operations. Students develop an understanding of how numbers behave and how they are used to model real-world situations.

Student learning in MTH1W is assessed through a balance of performance tasks, written work, and problem-solving activities:
- 70% of the final grade is based on unit evaluations, quizzes, and assignments
- 30% of the final grade is based on final evaluations:
- 10% Culminating project applying skills from all strands
- 20% Final written exam covering core concepts
All assessments are in accordance with Ontario curriculum expectations and emphasize real-world problem-solving, clarity of communication, and confidence in mathematical thinking.
